This Proves My Point

This Proves My Point

that Singaporean are fucking careless drivers. And to think some big shot wanna encourage more young people to be interested in car-racing. OH PLEASE!!

As you can see, I was driving on the right most lane of Dunearn Road at 60km/h. Why I remember? Because the roads were slippery after rain and I made it a point not to go over 70. My lane was pretty clear, which was a complete contrast from the left most lane and the center lane where there was many cars and resulting in a bit of a jam.

And so I was travelling at 60. A blue BMW was about one vehicle's spacing diagonally ahead of me. The next thing I knew, he FLICKERED his right signal ONCE before swerving out to the right immediately, causing me to fucking jam my brakes and honking him out of instinct at the same time.

It was a cool day and I did not switch on the air-conditioning in the car thus I wound down the windows. Which was why I was mortified because I personally heard my car screech like it never did before, jerking like crazy before it came to a complete stop.

I got down immediately (the BMW driver, guy in his 30s, got down too) and ran in front to check whether I crashed into the BMW. No crash, but my car was barely 20cm away from his right passenger door. I ran behind to check my car as well because there was this Honda Odyssey following behind me and if he had tailgated me, my car would be crashed as well because of the E-brake. Luckily no crash.

The next thing I knew, I was already storming back to the guy and spewing all the vulgarities I have learnt all my life. He was apologising profusely when I shouted at him and saying things like 'if you wanna die on the road, just fucking die alone and dun knnb drag other people in!' and 'Ccb what kind of fucking driver are you?! You fucking flickered your signal once and you just come out like that?!' and 'Lanjiao you damn fucking heng the car behind me did not crash into me if not I will make you pay for everything!' and 'If anything happened to my laptop I will make you feel fucking sorry!'

Oh, my bag and my laptop was on the passenger seat beside me and they all fell to the floorboard below when I jam-braked.

I think the last thing I said was 'You fucking get lost now and don't ever let me see you again!' before I stormed back to my car and got in.

Fuck, I've seen so many drivers of his kind but never thought that it would happen to me. They show their signal for fun, and change lane, expecting you to slow down and give way to them. They have completely forgotten that when you took that test called the Basic Theory of Driving, you are supposed to only manoeveur change lane only when you do not obstruct the traffic -- meaning you are supposed to pick up their speed and not cause the cars behind you to slow down.

Vulgarities, are good.

Nothing is too fast and blur. All you need to do, is to ask again to prevent yourself from being wronged.

Don't be like me.

Going Once, Going Twice, Gone!

Going Once, Going Twice, Gone!

As usual, like every other year, my uncle would invite my family to attend 一年一度的中秋晚会. That is akin like what the Chinese always say 'jia dor' or, 吃桌 in Teochew. Other than those really big red and white tentages that one would see being built on those wide grass patches, stacked up wooden planks as temporary flooring, it is not unusual to see Teochew opera being performed on a built-up stage by its own.

I remember when I was really young, other than the Teochew opera, the committee (炉主会) would also engaged mobile movie-screeners -- a group of people who would set up a projector screen and just a rolling film video player for the people in the vicinity to watch. The tradition was this -- the adults would always watch the Teochew opera, while the kids would always sit in front of the big projector screen, watching films that we don't quite understand. They stopped engaging them because no one likes it anymore, which is a very saddening fact.

But it was always fun. For one, we didn't have a lot of chances to watch movies when we were young, mainly because we had no money or my parents were not interested. And two, you need to be really lucky to be able to sit in front of the projector! Because it is always an outdoor-thing and when it rains, no movies for us. Three, there were no chairs placed in front of the projector screen. You have to find your own 'seats'. What me and my cousins did was to go to the bin centre, find some really clean cardboards, preferable still in intact box-shape and use them as chairs! We were normally small enough to sit down in the box and for one, I liked to sit in the box particularly.

Because it gives me a safe and clean feeling. No insects, no bugs, no wet butts after sitting on wet grass. Just me, and my cardboard box. I know it sounds weird but don't all your childhood thinkings seems all warped to you now? Like you might used to think that your dad is a gorilla? Hee.

I used to run to my grandmother, an avid fan of Teochew opera. She would always be sitting with her friends and watching the opera intently and nodding her head at times. Grandfather was always an active member of the committee in charge of all these in the neighbourhood. Every year we got to eat, have fun, play with lanterns, fire sparklers and candles. The adults would be bidding for auspicious items on the ongoing 喊镖. Everyone in the neighbourhood knew everyone. When I went to primary school, we even knew our friends' parents and grandparents. Like 'oh your 阿嫲 is fry carrot cake one right?' or 'oh you are whose whose whose's daughter right?" that kinda thing.

I remember she used to have a neighbour whose face was really in bad condition and I always ran away when I see her. Now thinking back, I feel so bad but how can you blame a child? In that neighbourhood, I have had a retarded mentally-challenged kid (I'm not scolding him, he was/is really retarded), always topless and chasing us around the neighbourhood. There was once while running away, I dropped my slipper and was too afraid to turn back. My brave sister, turned back and picked it up for me and we continued running. That, I will never forget.

That night, I went there and sat down in front of the Teochew opera for awhile. I forgot to bring my camera so I borrowed my dad's camera handphone. Although half the time I did not understand what they were singing about, the culture was so engaging that I was attracted to sit there for at least half an hour.

These are what I caught.

Old-style painted advertisement, normally for medicated oils like 双蝦标青草油.

I think I was the youngest there.

Mum said that guy was acting as a 马夫. I hate it that they have gone easy on the costumes now.

The ladies.

I would like to think that the above six are the generals (将军)?

I was about to leave when Mum said, "你留下来看!等一下还有一个王会出现." So I stayed.

I think the guy in black was who she was referring to as the '王'.

There! The '王' with the generals. Makes sense, yes? Anyway that yellow thing the '王' is holding has pictures of a big wheel painted on it. My mum told me that it meant that he was travelling/commuting in a moving vehicle. I don't know what forms of transportation they have in that 古代 era. Sedans maybe?

If you noticed, the new backdrop behind had been rolled down and that brought us into a new scene of the drama.

See what I like about this? There's a lot of inference to be done. You can infer an actor's character from the paintworks on his face. A few that I know is that, if the nose is painted white, normally termed 白鼻, that guy is a lecher and often hounds on beautiful innocent girls. If the paintwork is very red on the face, that guy has a strong character or somewhere along those lines.

Not just Teochew, I think any form of opera is intriguing. If only I understood what they were singing.

Digression: my dad jokingly wanted to bid for this for OTS.

A kid's drum set.

I'm sorry for the bad resolution. See what I mean by I have to bring a camera everywhere I go?! Okay maybe a good phone would be better.

Snail Mail From The Land Of Kangaroos

Snail Mail From The Land Of Kangaroos

OTS sent me a card!

A very beautiful card.

When I turned over, my pupils dilated. Because the pages were filled to the brim with his handwriting! Very very cluttered. Haha I like to have a lot of things to read!

"Baby, can on your webcam?"

"Okay, I pluck it in now."

"PLUG."

Forcing Yourself To Be Happy

Forcing Yourself To Be Happy

I stumbled upon some friends' blog which I haven't read in a long time, and I personally find it very disturbing to see comments like,

"Aiya, why dear never concentrate on talking da (to) me on MSN? He must be busy with his work right? As a gf, I should be happy for him that he is concentrating. Why I still feel so sian leh? Hmmm, must be happy for him."

Okay, that was really disturbing. I mean, if you are not happy with the situation, YOU ARE NOT HAPPY. Why do you have to convince yourself to be happy when you really aren't!? If you are bothered with his speed of reply, you should either tell him that you are unhappy or you don't let that fact bother you. Why force it upon yourself to 'aiya.. must be happy for him' and then face an internal struggle?! I think that's completely rubbish.

Even so, HOW happy are you supposed to be when your bf is just doing work? We are talking about adults over here, hello.

My point is (if you haven't gotten it), say out how you feel. You have a right to have negative feelings. Boyfriends aren't there just to receive positive/happy emotions. Thrash it, listen to what he has to say, then make a decision and not regret it (by aiya-ing here and aiya-ing there). From my lessons, I don't think second-guessing each other is very nice and making assumptions about each other without communicating is very polite.

And that is a point I will constantly remind myself.

People who can spot a certain habit in the quote above, will know who that quote is from. Hee. =P

Pictorial Memories

Pictorial Memories

8th August 2008: The Girls

We had a project meeting on that morning, but it was really nice of them to get me a mousse cake with ingredients that I like -- coffee and nuts. Hur, an exact contrast to Dellia's preferences, but we ate three quarters of the cake and I took home the rest of it!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8th August 2008: The Classmates

We met at Cafe Cartel Marina Square and the service was pretty good. It's funny to see that Lai Meng's review post on the service standards of Cafe Cartel Plaza Singapura has a warped ripple effect on all her friends. Everyone who now patrons Cafe Cartel would do a mental evaluation of the service standards. My experience was pleasant, except that some orders took a longer time than usual. However, the Citibank 15% off the total bill was enough to make us happy. Hee.

Took a night ride in Gab's black Latio and stopped somewhere while waiting for the rest. I like the way my camera functions. Without flashes, it still produces decent shots. Not beautiful, but decent shots, despite it being a home-use device. Doesn't the bridge seem never-ending?

SMAN. Haha. What the hell does that mean?! I know it's made up of our front initials hence the acronym, but it has no meaning at all. Hur.

The bridge itself. I believe this was the one my mother was telling me about. The one you see right in front above you when you drive along Henderson Road. Ah, the night scene there is very pretty! Not the pa-tor kind of pretty, but the relaxing good for chatting kind. I like.

They were so lovely. Sze Ling took my camera and started fiddling around with it. I thought that was weird because Sze Ling has never fiddled with my camera functions since I knew her. Suddenly, they all started singing 'Happy Birthday' and that was when I took a glance at my watch. Ah, 12am. Very punctual! 原来 Sze Ling was trying to capture the precious moment. =D Very very touched. Thank you everyone!

We ended the night with a gory movie -- The Pathologist. An impromptu decision but I love the movie! Very gory and a couple sado-machism sex scenes. If you are into these (like I am), catch it. Very sick. Very nice. Milo's butt also very nice. Hee.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9th August 2008: The Family

A birthday present from my sister! Look at Yuet Wei's nail colour! With or without flash, it's exactly the same as the DS!!

Because I like it, we had Churrascaria at Brazilian Churrasco, located along Sixth Avenue. Pineapple and ham, my favourite!

There were 2 other groups of people celebrating someone's birthday. How do I know? Because the staff were singing 'Happy Birthday' in a very cute manner and they did it twice that night. They didn't do it to me because I preferred a quiet dinner. =)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13th August: Dellia's Birthday

Because of Yuet Wei's birthday and mine, we are quite sick of cakes! So we got her a small blueberry cheesecake instead and she managed to stain her shorts with it. Hah.

The title says it all.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15th August 2008: The Sistas

Yes Yi Feng is a guy but he is almost like my sister. =) We caught up with each other as well as Sze Ling and Anthea, who had to leave early before we could have dinner.

New York New York's food isn't fantastic but I thought my Latino Chicken Chops were very nice! Yi Feng's BBQ ribs sucked. Sze's Beef Cubes Lasagne was delicious initially, but after two mouths it started to taste a little sick. =P

While I was talking to Sze Ling, Yi Feng excused himself to the loo, and when he came back to the table, he had this whole row of the restaurant crew trailing after him. One of them was holding the slice of cake above and a couple of others were holding this musical instrument that you shake and it makes shee-sha-shee-sha sounds.

I turned and looked at him, 'No... you didn't!' and he cheekily said 'Yes, I did.'

Haha, it was pretty embarrassing for them to sing me the song and I asked if the girls knew about it but they said they didn't know. Haha. Thanks alot lar! I was really touched!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17th August 2008: Tzyy Horng's Birthday Steamboat

We went to his house for steamboat! I have to say the food was really very very well-prepared and the prawns were huge! Thanks to Anthea who peeled all the shells for us and made us feel so blessed, like we all shared a boyfriend. Haha!

A second gathering in a month! =)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

24th August 2008: The Guys

Bennett and Eugene shared a crayfish pasta. That was quite gay. Nicole and I shared this Spinach & Salmon Pasta in Basil Sauce and Tonkatsu Curry Set.

After watching the movie 'The Hunting Party', the night was still young (haha cliche) hence Bennett suggested going over to Acid Bar and talk cock! I like to talk cock! Hee.

Did I tell you that Bennett said asking me out is akin to asking the President out? Haha, am I that busy? I don't think so. It's just that our timings always clash. Zzz.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27th August 2008: The Good Friend/Boyfriend's Best Friend

Wee Kian very nice! He treated me to a meal! We had Happy Hot Pot and it was really filling. He kept barbequeing and filling up my plate but I kept boiling and forgot to fill up his plate. Hah! We first had chicken stock as the soup base and I dumped in many prawns to boil so that the soup would be 'sweet'. Apparently I forgot that he does not eat prawns.

That night, I ended up eating 16 prawns. Worth every dollar he paid. -___-

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30th August 2008: Clement's Advance Birthday BBQ

Our spread. I had many chicken wings! It's a good-food month for me sia!

They played this special Chinese character mahjong where the rules are basically the same, just that you have to form the 边 with the 正字 and form a legal word. When I say legal word, I mean a correct word.

Next, we played Indian poker! As usual we sabo-ed Clement. The forfeit was..

this disgusting piece of shit. It's Bailey's with Coke. When added in, the Bailey's form a brown precipitate. And thank god I didn't get to drink the disgusting thing. Bleah.

The girls again.

Our infamous one to ten! =)

Everyone that was there!

Yes yes more pictures of myself. For my boyfriend who has not seen me for months! =D

Third gathering in a month!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am missing my boyfriend alot at the moment. Reception at Busselton Jetty is not very good and apparently he is having a good night's stay in the car! Haha, if I was there I would propose that we bring a portable stove and we can cook supper! Hur.

So what do I do when I miss him?

I watch The Notebook. =)
