i finally caught Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. finally.
a bad start of the day actually. someone (
a number of deviations from the story:
1) since when did Harry had those actions at the tower when he was fighting the Hungarian Horntail dragon? the scene was supposed to display Harry's superb flying skills when dealing with the dragon, that's why he practised the Summoning Charm days before the first task so that he could summon his Firebolt. but the movie made him looked stupid when falling off the tower. eeks. and he even brought us a tour round Hogwarts. -_-
2) what's with Hermione looking so smitten with Viktor Krum? she was supposed to be nonchalant about him! and i thought she was over-emotional at the end of the Yule Ball.
3) i know it's impossible to make Emma Watson's teeth shrink, but she ought to look MUCH prettier after making up. however, i see no difference, and by that, i mean she's supposed to look WOW-GORGEOUS after being made up. but no, i don't feel that way. perhaps she should look uglier when having school days. *shrugs*
4) there are two important events in Goblet of Fire, one is the Triwizard Tournament while another is the Quidditch World Cup. but hell no, the Quidditch World Cup lasted for like only, 3 seconds?
5) Since when did the Veelas enter the Great Hall with those butterflies thingy? and did they go "ahhhhh..." in the book? they looked like bimbos instead. oh wait, maybe they just were. and they were supposed to have SILVER HAIR.
6) the underwater scene in the big lake was what i anticipated the most. i had wanted to see visually how it was like when the merpeople captured the champions' treasures and tied them underwater. but no tension was built. they should have prolonged the time waiting for the other champions to come, so that it would seem like Harry reached the hostages well before the others.
7) it was Dobby the house elf who gave Harry the Gillyweed, not Neville Longbottom! no more discrepancies from the book itself, PLEASE!
8) every scene was chopped off abruptly. if i hadn't read the book i defnitely would not know what was going on. i can't even spot the difference between Barty Crouch and Ludo Bagman!
9) since when was Dumbledore so fed up? Dumbledore was supposed to CALM!!! he is ALWAYS CALM! even in face of danger! now he is soooo.. violent! and he jumps and fidgets in the movie! erks! and he's supposed to speak slowly and steadily! this Dumbledore shoots his mouth off instead. =/
10) Rita Skeeter is supposed to be shrewd. she looked like some old fashion icon of Marilyn Monroe instead. and why did they cut out the part when Hermione found out that she was a unregistered Animagus? err, or was that in book 5? i suppose no. that was an important part i thought, because no one could understand how she always got the juiciest saucy news!
11) a simple scene of Harry giving Fred and George Weasley his Triwizard winnings was even scrapped off. Without those winnings, Mr Weasley and Mr Weasley can't even set up the Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes!
12) the prefects' bathroom supposed to be filled with colourful bubbles yes? and there were supposed to be a hundred golden taps standing around the pool's edges, each with a different coloured jewel set onto its handle yes? each tap was supposed to be giving out different colours of bubbles and perfumes? no, none of these. clearly disappointed. i love this scene alot. or did i miss out this part because i went to the toilet? someone fill me in.
13) Cho Chang's supposed to be Korean yes? she looked Chinese instead.
14) Harry's supposed to ask Cho to the Yule Ball outside a classroom. Not at the owlery, NO.
15) The last task in the maze. It's supposed to have tension being built up. There were supposed to be lotsa creatures acting as obstructions. Boggarts, Dementors, the dragons and all. But what do we see? fogs, fogs and more fogs.
16) Voldemort did not look scary at all. and he had a flat nose! god damnit.
17) Ron should just cut his hair. it's so messy!
18) the movie did not show that McGonagall said 'this Yule Ball is supposed to LET OUR HAIR DOWN' then Lavender Brown is supposed to snigger! that part IS FUNNY because McGonagall's hair is ALWAYS tied up in a bun!
18) the duration is too short. if Titanic can be THAT LONG, why not Potter?! make it 4 hours. i'd really LOVE THAT. =D
i can't continue with the bad points anymore. -_-
but some parts that i found the movie enjoyable:
1) Harry Potter half naked!!
2) i love Moaning Myrtle. i really do. she's just so cute!
3) Harry spilling water out of his mouth when he smiled at Cho! what a blunder hur!
4) Ron Weasley's dress robes. totally BE-YOU-TIFUL! =P
5) the ending. at least they did not mess that up.
6) Professor McGonagall. never changes does she? i think she's the only character that's totally in league with what's described in the book.
7) The part when Harry and Ron kept thinking who they should invite to the Yule Ball, and they kept talking in class, till Snape kept plopping their heads.
8) Madam Maxime and Hagrid and his yellow-polka dot tie! HAHA!
i can't think of anymore. perhaps, we should see the movie AS a movie, not something what the book is trying to bring out to viewers visually. but as much as i try to review it as a movie, it's still rather messy and focuses are all placed at the wrong points. where's the director for the first 2 movies? Chris Columbus!! come back please. i hope he will be the director for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. at least his two Potter movies stuck closely to the book, and i love Potter movies because i love the books.
i can go on about the Order of the Phoenix, because i would love to see Nymphadora Tonks, Dolores Umbitch (oh i meant Umbridge) and Sirius Black back at Grimmauld Place Number 12 again! oh i should just stop harping about Potter for now.
then we had dinner at far east. my shoes had to tear and spoil after going through a terrible time in the thunderstorm so i had to buy a new pair of slippers.. got black Ripples and started wearing them immediately. there's no quality control! the size 7 is smaller than my old brown Ripples.. but heck, i needed them desperately anyway. and we took a bus back to united square for some tea and we stopped at this bus stop opposite Hotel Royal. We climbed the stairs up the overhead bridge and then i spotted something. something white was lurking in the hole in between the steps of the stairs! i took a closer look and HEY PRESTO! IT'S AN IPOD SHUFFLE!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! i must be damn lucky, i am damn lucky, I AM A LUCKY GIRL!! hurhur. that made my day and i skipped around happily. LOL.
then sat was a boring day in town doing absolutely nothing. ate, sat, slept, walked and read. oh dear donkey i am so sorry that i punched and poked your eye. i really didn't mean it. violence is in my basic instincts. you should have known better than to aggravate me. hurhur!
i'm not clubbing anymore for a month. i want to try and save money.
the keyword is try.
