someone made a flippant comment about the latest earthquake-caused-tsunami in asia.. it went something like "aiya no big deal la.. it will not kenna us anyway"..
i was caught in between whether to slap him on the face or to poke him in the ass.. but then again, i ignored him anyway.. i can't be bothered to waste my time and effort on changing people's horrible mindsets like his.. it's incorrigible anyway.. 无可救药.. if you understand what i mean that is..
looking at the families being really helpless and distraught really makes you feel that no one can ever defeat natuaral disasters.. i mean getting involved with such disasters who can you blame? no one.. it's purely bad luck and fate, as i think it that way.. i do think that a special path has been laid out for you long ago when you were born but although you ARE destined to walk through that particular path, you can pick flowers on the way and enjoy your journey, or to trample the pretty plants and make your life hard. it's all up to you to make your life better.
over 120,000 people dead in asia.. right at the last few days of the year.. does it symbolise something? i do hope nothing else worse than this will happen again (although i know it will).. but it's just kind of a new year wish.. WORLD PEACE.
the rain has been continuing for a few days.. well it seems to me that heaven's feeling sad for the victims.. they were all victims of the tsunami and their own fate.. i dunnoe why i'm getting all so emotional.. it's not really me to feel that way.. but can u imagine? your close ones lying in a pile of the dead, with only a canvas sheet covering them, not with a proper coffin because there are just too many corpses and they have to be given queue numbers to identify them.. looking for them is such a big hassle.. there are at least 400 over corpses and you have to look through everyone of them (imagine the state of death.. they sure won't look nice after being in water, hit by bricks or pillars, blood and all that stuff) till you finally find them. haiz. *long sigh*
ok.. think i'll shall stop harping on the sad stuff.. it's new year's eve anyway (and it's still raining out there) and i'm here sitting down comfortably.. haiz i still can't stop thinking about the tsunami.. have decided to donate some of my old clothes to the affected areas.. i wonder if they need old specs? but i do not think so.. i think what they need now are blankets, ponchos, clothes, sleeping bags and stuff in which they can find solace.. if you come across this and do have such things which you do not necessarily need, do donate to them. they need it more than you. old fashioned phrase, but true.
singaporeans are haughty, yes i agree, but they do know when to be nice (that's only if they are told to do so).. i'm sure not alot of them took the initiative to do charity.. normally most of them are copycats la (i don't deny that includes me as well).. look back on the number of charity shows on tv.. i guess they are just buying entertainment and donate in the name of charity.. well, to be practical, it doesn't really matter what your purpose is when you do charity, it's the acknowledgement and amount that you give in the end.. come on la.. there will always be fake people who say "it's the thought that counts".. well if charity organisations believe in that, why all the media charity shows then?? pragmatism is the core essential.. i do not have to fight hard for my stand.
2005 is arriving in another few seconds.. enjoy the last moments of 2004..i want to wish all of ya a happy new year and while you're enjoying yourself, do keep in mind that there are people out there struggling hard to stay alive. appreciate what you have and stop the pretending to care.
